Grapefruit Spoon or regular spoon
Firmware (Pantry Goods):
1 tsp Cornstarch
½ tsp Lite Salt
1.5 tsp whole clove (or ¾ tsp ground clove)
1 tbsp Cider vinegar (Or substitute lemon juice if using pear juice)
2 tbsp of brown sugar
¼ cup Hulled Sunflower Kernels
Software (Refrigerated Goods):
Refrigerator:
½ cup Apple Juice (Or substitute Pear Juice)
3-4 slices of fresh ginger (or substitute 1 tsp of ground ginger)
(1 tbsp lemon juice IF substituting for Pear Juice)
2 tbsp water
3 medium pears
How to Prepare:
Prepare Pears
Peel Pears with the vegetable peeler
Cut Pears in half, parallel to their long axis
Using a paring knife, remove the woody flesh attached to the stem, and the blossom
Use a grapefruit or regular spoon, or paring knife, to remove seeds and seed chamber
Into the flat bottomed pan with a lid, add:
½ cup apple or pear juice
1 tbsp Cider Vinegar if using Apple juice, or 1 tbsp lemon juice is using pear juice
1 tsp Cornstarch
2 tbsp brown sugar
3 slices of ginger OR 1 tsp ground ginger
1.5 tsp whole cloves OR ¾ tsp ground cloves
½ tsp lite salt
Whisk the contents of the pan till the sugar and Cornstarch dissolve.
Place Pears in the pan, cut side down
Add in ¼ cup hulled sunflower kernels
Cover, and heat pan on medium, till it simmers.
Turn down and heat at a simmer till the pears are soft, but not mushy, when you go to pierce them with a paring knife.
Remove from the heat, remove the pears from the pan and divide amongst storage containers, leaving the liquid and seeds
Off the heat, stir in 1 tsp vanilla into the hulled sunflower seed kernels and liquid.
Divide the liquid and hulled sunflower seed kernels over the pairs.
Allow to cool uncovered.
Cover and refrigerate.
