These instructions are for a well-rounded breakfast based on the Beach Body "21 Day Fix" program (minus the cup of coffee). The total daily caloric intake is a little under 1,500 calories. (I believe the exact number is perchance 1,441 calories in total). It may seem a little "spelled out" for some. However, I am writing it mostly with my eleven-year-old daughter in mind.
I understand that a daily max of 1,500 calories may not seem like a lot. However, I'm a high school English teacher. In other words, I work ridiculously long hours. While some of those hours may be spent standing in front of a classroom or running down the hall to the copier, most of the time in my twelve-hour shift is spent sitting at a desk (or behind the wheel of a car to get to a desk at the school or at home). I sit for a good portion of the day, grading papers... or creating lesson plans, which will lead to grading more papers. Then I sit in unnecessary staff and "PLC" meetings with fellow teachers, talking about a curriculum that has already been planned for us because--Heaven forbid--teachers may choose literature that has a gay character or too many people of color. (Insert eye roll emoji... and begin to question whether or not you would want this kind of unbalanced, micromanaged life as an adult. If not, then do not choose a teaching career.)
Bottom line... I sit.
A lot.
So, a diet of 1,600 to 2,000 calories might be suitable for a person getting in the recommended minimum of thirty minutes of exercise, three times a week. It isn't going to work for someone like me, whose definition of exercise is a brisk five-minute sprint down the hall to the teacher's lounge to print copies of the day's work before everyone else has the same idea, or the occasional I-have-a-free-day-let's-put-in-Jillian Michaels workout.
That leaves folks such as myself with the only option of cutting calories in order to retain at least a little good heart health and, hopefully, something of a svelte figure.
